What it is & why it matters
Traction Motor
The motor converts battery energy into wheel torque. Hub motors sit in the wheel (simple, cheap, easy CKD); mid-drive sits at the crank (better weight balance, climb). Rated power (W) and rated voltage decide your top speed and hill-climbing.
Key specs to check
Type Hub / Mid-drive
Hub = simple CKD; Mid = better climb
Rated power 500 W – 8000 W
Pakistan road legal often ≤ 2000–3000 W
Voltage 48V / 60V / 72V
Must match battery & controller
Rated speed ≤ 3000 rpm
Higher rpm needs bigger sprocket for speed
Cooling Air / Liquid
Liquid for continuous high load
Ingress IPX5+
Dust & water resistance for rainy roads
How to choose for Pakistan
- Match voltage to your battery (72V motor on 72V pack).
- Size power to use: 1000–2000 W for city, 3000–5000 W for load/hills.
- Hub for cheapest CKD; mid-drive if you climb loaded.
- Confirm IP rating and hall-sensor availability for controller pairing.
Common buying mistakes
- Over-power for road use — >3000 W can fail PK licensing & insurance.
- Voltage mismatch burns the windings on first ride.
- No hall sensors → controller can't commutate smoothly.

Buyer FAQ
Common questions
Hub is cheaper and simplest to CKD; mid-drive climbs better and balances weight. Pick by terrain & load.
Most provincial rules cap e-motorcycle motor power around 2000–3000 W; confirm with your local traffic authority.
A 60V motor on a 72V pack overheats; a 72V motor on 48V is weak. Match all three: battery, controller, motor.
