What it is & why it matters
Controller
The controller pulses battery current to the motor at the right time using PWM. Its voltage must match the pack, its current rating must exceed motor draw, and its control mode (sine vs square wave) affects smoothness, heat and efficiency. Protocol matching lets it talk to the throttle, BMS and display.
Key specs to check
Voltage 48V / 60V / 72V
Must match battery & motor exactly
Current 25–120 A
Size ≥ motor peak draw
Wave Sine / Square
Sine = smoother, quieter, cooler
Protocol FOC / Hall
FOC sine gives best efficiency
Features Regen / E-ABS
Energy recovery & electronic braking
Cooling Heatsink / Fan
Fan for hot-climate continuous use
How to choose for Pakistan
- Lock voltage to the battery (72V controller for 72V pack).
- Pick sine-wave FOC for quiet, efficient, cool running.
- Current rating ≥ 1.2× motor rated amps.
- Confirm throttle & display protocol (UART/CAN) match.
Common buying mistakes
- Square-wave on a premium motor = jerky, hot, inefficient.
- Under-rated current = controller thermal-shutdown on hills.
- Wrong protocol = throttle or display won't communicate.

Common questions
Sine-wave FOC is smoother, quieter and runs cooler — worth it for daily use in Pakistan heat.
If the controller's amp limit is below the motor's peak, it cuts out on hills or under load.
Only if voltage, phase protocol (FOC/hall) and current rating all match. Mismatches damage both.
